Aikido of Provincetown
To injure an opponent
is to injure yourself.
To control aggression
without inflicting injury
is the Art of Peace.
- O Sensei
Our Teacher
Bob Casanta is a nidan, or second degree blackbelt, in Aikido and has trained in dozens of dojos all around the world. He is, however, primarily a student of Hal Lehrman Shihan of Aikido of Park Slope in Brooklyn, NY. Bob fell in love with New England in general and with Cape Cod in particular and knew he wanted to live here – but couldn’t do it without Aikido. His solution? Aikido of Provincetown.
a different kind of martial art at the tip of the Cape
About Us
Aikido of Provincetown was founded in 2007. We are a diverse community of practitioners: novice and expert; male and female; long term residents of the Cape, vacationers, and recent arrivals from a wide variety of backgrounds. We meet year-round to enjoy one another’s company and to practice Aikido in a supportive and non-competitive atmosphere. Everyone is welcome to come and watch or join a class, regardless of your level of experience.
The Art
Aikido was developed in Japan in the first half of the 1900s. It is a non-aggressive yet extremely effective form of self-defense which can be practiced by people of all ages and physical abilities. In Aikido, rather than meeting our opponent’s aggression with aggression of our own, we simply blend with the energy of our opponent’s attack and use that energy against them: the harder they attack the quicker and more effectively their attack is neutralized.
